"We were previously using an older POS system from a European company, which ultimately folded.  It was just an OK system, but it did the job enough to get us thru the first 3 years.  However, as our success and menu grew, the POS became harder and harder to use.  Why?  It simply did not allow for complex categories, and easy to find menu item search features.  We added a lot of new drinks, cocktails and craft beers to the menu also, and staff were having a hard time finding the menu items in long drop down English language lists (not alphabetized also, which might have helped).  During peak periods, this really slows down operations with the POS ultimately becoming a bottleneck to operations.  Some nights we do 150 covers in under 3 hours. 

At the same time, the floor layout in the old POS was a simple static screen.  Staff have to recall each table number with little or correlation to the physical floor layout.  This makes it hard for new staff to quickly come on board and start taking orders from day one.  "Where's table 6?" is an often heard question.  

As our license ran out, we switched over to Odoo, with Lighthouse Info-tech doing the install.  What a breath of fresh air! Menu items are clearly laid out in seperate easy to find categories.  The interface is fast, efficient, and highly intuitive.  New users take just 15 minutes to train up and become familiar with the POS.  We were able to add extra screens also (tablets) for ordering, which frees up a lot of space behind the bar near the cashier (staff were bumping heads there).  We are VERY pleased with our new POS, although to date we have yet to dive into the loyalty program and stock management.  All in a day's work!
